The king among spices

The famous Greek physician Hippocrates (known to us from the Hippocrates Oath) spoke about pepper and its health-promoting properties as early as 460 BC. For a long time, pepper was a luxury good that was transported from Asia to Europe by caravans. It was so precious that at times it was even balanced with gold.
Pepper is a must for beef roulades and sauerbraten. It is also an indispensable spice for vegetable dishes, fish, pulses and salads. Even for sweets such as gingerbread, the all-rounder pepper gives the appropriate hot and spicy note.
Tip for the cold days: combine a few pinches of pepper with hot milk and honey.
Keep it dry and cool. Freshly ground, the black pepper tastes very aromatic.
